Artist Statement

My love for dance began in my first class in my hometown of Bodrum, Turkey, at the age of nine. I felt like I had found something I needed. Every day after school, I would go straight to training and I never wanted to stop. I’m incredibly grateful that I found this passion so early, and my wish to spend my life dancing has only grown stronger with time. Over the past eight years, I’ve performed and competed in solo and group work, nationally and internationally. I love the rhythm of preparing for the stage, the excitement of travel, and the sense of belonging that comes from sharing movement and practice with others. I thrive on structure and self-discipline, but also on the moments of freedom — in rehearsals, training, and especially when I’m performing. Sometimes I struggle to find the right words to express how I feel. But through dance, I feel I can say exactly what I mean — clearly and without misunderstanding.

When I was twelve, my dance teacher invited me to assist her in classes. For six years, I observed, helped, and learned alongside her, working with dancers aged 6 to 17. That experience ignited a love of teaching and sharing what I was learning. This has become a key aspect of how I have been growing as a dancer, and also as someone who wants to share what I do. In 2023, my teacher and mentor moved away. After working so closely together for so long this was a challenge, but it also opened new pathways. I began training and choreographing on my own, and that same year I created and performed a solo that placed in the top 10 at the Dance World Cup World Finals in Prague. I also won first place at diArt BBCC Winter event, and received scholarships that helped me continue my training. I began teaching conditioning and technique classes and creating solos and group choreography for younger dancers. Giving back to the same community that nurtured me has become a very meaningful part of my dance journey so far.

I’ve also had the opportunity to travel for intensives, masterclasses, and workshops. These experiences have expanded my understanding of movement and performance — not just technically, but emotionally and socially too. One moment I’ll never forget was during a class in London, improvising with a dancer I’d never met. The connection, synchronicity and mutual awareness reminded me how powerful dance can be — how it connects people in a particularly unique way.

Looking ahead, I want to build a future in dance that includes performing, creating, and teaching. I want to keep developing my own choreographic voice, while staying open to new collaborations and ideas. I also want to help create opportunities for others — especially for young dancers who might not have access to training or support. I believe that dance is a language, and a tool for connection. It’s given me so much already, and I’m excited to continue growing and contributing as an artist.
